More than 17,000 job seekers and students visited the seventh Careers UAE 2007 held last week at the International Dubai Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event brought together 179 exhibitors from various sectors including financial services, hospitality and tourism, oil and gas, training and education.
The exhibition was organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre with the official support of the Ministry of Labour, Tanmia (National Human Resource Development and Empowerment Authority) Emirates Nationals Development Programme (ENDP), the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University and UAE University.
During the event, students had the opportunity to meet with UAE national entrepreneurs and participate in three career competitions organised by Tanmia, Damas and ENDP.
Careers UAE 2007 witnessed an increase of 110 per cent and is scheduled to be held in April next year.

Gargash Enterprises had a lot to offer. According to Abdul Wahab Al Ahmad, official relations manager at Gargash Enterprises, positions are available in sales, workshops, administration, accounting, information technology, human resources and public relations.
"In addition to academic qualifications, we look for someone who is dynamic, eager to learn and has an upbeat attitude," he said.
The company also offers a three-month training programme to new employees.
The Dubai Financial Services Authority is seeking fresh graduates. DFSA offers a two-year intensive training programme for newcomers.
"We want people who have excellent English language skills, have a strong commitment with good academic qualifications," said Gary Wallis, head of human resources at DFSA.
Leadership, finance, law and information technology will be some of the issues covered by the course.
Customer relations have been in great demand by job seekers, according to Rajaa Al Dusari, senior officer of recruitment at the First Gulf Bank.
"Attitude, communication skills, computer skills and the ability to handle pressure is what we look for in employees," she said.
If you are into archaeology, then the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing is the place to be.
Accorsing to Ebrahim Yaqout, manager of human resources and training at the Government of Dubai, they are seeking employees with a degree in archaeology, someone who is willing to work out in the field and is "absolutely patient". Training programmes are also offered to new recruits.
Amlak does not look at the qualifications you have. All you need is "the right attitude and ambition", according to Fatima Salmin, Emiratisation manager at Amlak.
Postitions are available in call centres, direct sales, operations, credit and risk, finance, information technology, investments and coporate finance, marketing and human resources.
"It's so simple, if you give, you will receive. We need someone who is a fast learner," she said.
The Damas-Tanmia Career Quiz
Zayed University won the second edition of the Tanmia-Damas Career Quiz held this year on the sidelines of Careers UAE 2007.
The event was organised by the Centre for Career Guidance and Planning (CCGP) of the National Human Resource Development Authority (Tanmia) and Damas.
More than 300 students from the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University and UAE University competed against each other for four months before 12 were chosen to represent their universities in the career quiz.
Held in two rounds, students were asked seven questions in each round on topics covering emiratisation and the UAE job market.
According to Saif Al Noaimi, director of CCGP: "This quiz is aimed at involving students in creating and spreading awareness about the UAE's job market requirements and employment opportunities.
"The format of the quiz has been designed to be informative in itself and students will gain immensely from their participation."
Winners of the Damas-Tanmia Career Quiz speak:
"Through the quiz I got to learn more about Tanmia, statistics about the country's job market, how to write a resume and so on. Taking the quiz has been very helpful for me and I think it was helpful for the other students who were attending."
