- Design & Analysis: Creating structural designs, models, and plans for new constructions or renovations using software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Calculations: Determining, analyzing, and forecasting loads (dead, live, environmental) and stresses to ensure safety and stability.
- Material Selection: Recommending appropriate materials like steel, concrete, or glass based on durability, cost, and safety.
- Site Inspections & Reporting: Visiting construction sites to inspect work, ensuring compliance with specifications, and investigating structural failures.
- Collaboration & Regulation: Working with architects, contractors, and surveyors to ensure projects adhere to building codes and health and safety regulation
Requirements:
Education: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Licensure: Typically require a Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Structural Engineer license
Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in structural analysis software and CAD tools
Attributes: Analytical, detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills
