An architectural design engineer is required to work on a variety of activities and responsibilities that integrate architectural design with modern digital technology
Tasks and responsibilities:
1. Design projects using BIM tools
• Create accurate and comprehensive 3D models using software such as Revit, ArchiCAD or Bentley AECOsim
• Design and document all project details, including facades, horizontal projections, and sectors
• Optimize designs to maximize functional and aesthetic efficiency
2. Preparing working drawings
• Producing high-resolution architectural working drawings linked to BIM models
• Provide precise details regarding architectural elements such as doors, windows, finishes, etc
3. Coordinating work between different specializations
• Ensuring the integration of architectural design with other disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical)
• Use coordination tools such as Navisworks to identify and resolve conflicts between different systems (Clash Detection)
4. Preparing tables and quantities
• Automatically extract schedules and material quantities from the BIM model
• Support the preparation and analysis of cost estimates based on model information
5. Project data management
• Organize and update project data within the model to ensure it adheres to BIM standards
• Maintain data connectivity to facilitate maintenance and facilities management after the project ends
6. Performance and sustainability analysis
• Conduct analyzes such as:
• Natural lighting analysis
• Energy efficiency
• Sustainability assessment and green building design
• Incorporate LEED principles or other sustainability standards
7. Document management
• Ensure that all documentation is prepared in line with project requirements and international standards (e.g. ISO 19650)
• Store updated versions of models and drawings and share them with different teams
8. Communicate with concerned parties
• Provide presentations and visuals to clients and stakeholders
• Work closely with the design team to meet client requirements
9. Updates and design modifications
• Update models periodically based on design changes or customer feedback
• Dealing with different versions of the model to ensure that all modifications are documented
10. Continuous learning and development
• Follow up on technology developments in the field of BIM
• Applying new standards and knowledge to improve efficiency and creativity at work
Tools used:
• Design software: Autodesk Revit, ArchiCAD, SketchUp
• Formatting and analysis of models: Navisworks, Solibri Model Checker
• Performance Analysis: Green Building Studio, Insig
