- Conduct drilling of boreholes, sample and field testing. Keep drilling equipment and tools clean and in working conditions. Program preventive and corrective maintenance activities in coordination with the maintenance technician.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform drilling, sampling and field testing activities under the supervision of the Sites Supervisors.
- Conduct field tests, including SPT, Pocket, Pressure meter and Permeability testing.
- Safely keep the drilling rig and other drilling equipment and tools.
- Set up and operate drilling equipment to obtain solid core samples of strata for analyzing geological characteristics of ground, nature of ore, or strength of foundation material.
- Drive or guides truck-mounted drilling equipment on to metal or wood foundation, or assembles equipment in position.
- Attach diamond churn, alloy, or percussion bit to drill rod, and fastens rod in machine, using wrench or other hand tools.
- Identify and store field samples and assist Site Supervisors in the transportation of field samples to the laboratory.
- Report equipment breakdown or requirement for maintenance/repair of drilling equipment and tools.
- Assist in daily maintenance and servicing of drill rig, drilling equipment and tools.
- Implement safety regulations and protection measures.
- File daily drilling forms (daily drilling report) including daily drilling types and progress, sampling techniques, unforeseen conditions, results of routine checking of drilling equipment and its conditions.
