Job Description
The Surface Driller DD and /or RC, is responsible for safely and efficiently operating drilling rigs and associated equipment
for mineral exploration projects. The role involves drilling boreholes to obtain core samples, maintaining high safety and
environmental standards, and ensuring drilling productivity and quality in accordance with client and company requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Drilling Operations
• Operate surface diamond and / or RC drill rigs to extract core samples from designated drill sites.
• Monitor drilling parameters, adjust techniques, and maintain core recovery and quality.
• Set up, align, and dismantle drill rigs and support equipment as required.
• Conduct routine inspections of rigs and equipment to ensure safe working condition.
Safety & Compliance and Follow all protocols and standard operating procedures to ensure safety and compliance on the job site
• Adhere to company safety protocols, procedures, and environmental policies.
• Conduct pre-start checks, risk assessments, and participate in safety meetings.
• Report hazards, incidents, and equipment malfunctions immediately.
· Ensure accurate core recovery and core handling procedures.
• Maintain correct drill hole depths, core orientation, and detailed drilling records.
• Assist in the transportation, marking, and secure storage of drill core.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on rigs, rods, pumps, and compressors.
• Coordinate with mechanics and supervisors for major equipment repairs.
• Ensure rig and worksite are kept clean, safe, and organized.
• Supervise and mentor drill assistants/offsiders as required.
• Communicate progress, issues, and requirements with supervisors and geologists.
• Work collaboratively with site personnel to achieve drilling targets.
• Strong knowledge of drilling techniques, core orientation, and downhole survey tools.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in remote locations.
• Understanding of safety standards, mine site regulations, and environmental practices.
• Physical fitness and ability to work long shifts in challenging outdoor conditions.
• Safety-conscious and detail-oriented.
• Strong problem-solving and mechanical skills.
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and adaptable to changing site conditions.
