- To wash and decontaminates used instruments and equipment by following prescribed techniques.
- Maintains and operates washer/sterilizers, sonic washers, steam and gas autoclaves and other related equipment, adhering to instructions.
- Processes and maintains sterile instruments and surgical sets by adhering to adequacy of sets and correct handling techniques.
- Collects and distributes items to and from units in a timely manner, correctly documents any shortages.
- Inspects all instruments and devices to determine that they are in good working condition.
- Checks for and processes outdated supplies and instruments according to established procedures.
- Assists in the maintenance of efficient and adequate stock levels.
- Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of work area and equipment.
- Processes, maintains and handles sterile instruments and ensure that surgical sets are complete.
- Collects and distributes items to and from the units in a timely manner and correctly documents any missing or broken instruments.
- Performs routine safety checks and tests on unit equipment and records data correctly.
- Reports defects, losses, breakages, shortages and untoward incidents to the CSSD Supervisor.
- Checks for and processes outdated supplies and instruments according to procedure.
- Assists in the maintenance of efficient and adequate stock levels.
- Maintains quality standard of service by adhering to established policies and procedures.
- Acts as mentor to new staff as and when necessary.
- Maintains updated education by attending in-service and unit staff meetings, and offers suggestions related to improving services to units.
- Participate in Quality Department activities.
- Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities.
